The City of Calgary is building three new skateparks in 2019: Bowness, Genesis Centre, and Rocky Ridge. Great news for Calgary skateboarding!

Bowness skatepark is under construction. It began late in 2018 and the crew from New Line Skateparks worked under a heated tent for a few months to complete most of the work. It just needs a bit more minor work before it opens this spring.

The park is located in Queen Elizabeth Park (4324 77 St NW). Here are some concept images of the design (click either image for more):

Construction on the Genesis Centre skatepark will begin after Bowness is complete. New Line is the contractor and construction will likely take about three months. The site is the front of the Genesis Centre YMCA, 7555 Falconridge Blvd NE. Here is the concept image (click below for more):

Rocky Ridge Skatepark will be located at the new Shane Homes YMCA, 11300 Rocky Ridge Rd NW. Construction will start up a little later than Genesis and hopefully will be done in late fall. Here’s a 2-D sketch of the design concept:
